Türkiye will return to the European Union route

Turkey's Reengagement with the European Union: A Lengthened Journey Ahead

Turkey is the country that can make the most effective contribution to the future and strengthening of the European Union with its geographical, demographic, entrepreneurial and dynamic structure and military power.

Turkey - Europe Union
The first Europe Day in history was originally determined as 5 May by the Council of Europe, of which we are a founding full member, in 1964. 5 May represents and celebrates the founding of the Council of Europe. Later, the European Union, to which we are in the process of accession, decided to celebrate 9 May as Europe Day. May 9 is the date when Robert Schuman presented his famous Declaration in 1950, this date is accepted as the day when the current foundations of the European Union were laid. The European flag, adopted by both the Council of Europe and the European Union, has also become the symbol of Europe Day and May is celebrated as the month of Europe.
May is a meaningful month for us as a founding member of the Council of Europe and a country in the process of joining the EU.

On such a meaningful day, it is essential to emphasize the importance of Turkey's accession to the European Union, because Turkey is the country that can make the most effective contribution to the future and strengthening of the European Union with its geographical, demographic, entrepreneurial and dynamic structure and military power. The EU membership of Turkey, which has completed its reform process with a democratic, progressive administration, can increase the integrity and prosperity of the European project by contributing to European values and solidarity within the union.

Together, we can join forces for democracy, human rights and economic development to build a stronger Europe and move the European Union to where it should be on the world stage. I believe that Turkey and the European Union will evolve into a successful equation that brings benefits to all stakeholders in the not too distant future. We will be the architects of this.

Turkey's international reputation

During the AKP governments, we see that Turkey's EU negotiations have actually stopped and the point reached even on the green passport is deplorable. Since our young people cannot get a Schengen visa, they cannot go to internships abroad or to business meetings. In this, the government has a responsibility as much as the EU side. Democratic institutions in our country have destroyed the international reputation of our country by inflicting great damage on the tradition of democracy. In doing so, it has dragged Turkey into the position of the European Union's migrant subcontractor. This is unacceptable. We aim to be an equal member of the EU, to be included with a fair common vision.
